UV varnishing
Did you know?
UV varnishing protects the printed surface, but when expertly applied it can also work magic. Special 3D varnishing creates a raised effect, playing with light and shadow to give your brand a premium finish. We work our magic in many ways – with matt or gloss varnish, across the entire surface or on selected details such as a logo or part of a photograph. Varnishing can create relief or a range of different textures. It is limited only by your imagination: that is where ordinary print ends and magic begins.
Description
This is one of the most popular techniques for enriching substrates used in the printing industry. This process involves covering the surface of different substrates with a varnish layer, which is then cured with a special electromagnetic wave lengths of the spectrum - is commonly called UV light.
The types of UV varnishing can be represented by multiple categories. The most common division due to the type of varnish used and so we distinguish here: glossy, matte and special . Because of the manner and method of varnishing: flat and spot (so called selective varnishing). All types UV varnishing processes offered by us are described in dedicated tabs.
Features
• Increases the durability of prints - protects the surface against mechanical factors - eg. scratches, abrasion of the ink, moisture.
• Gives striking appearance - increases the attractiveness of the final print by highlighting selected items or the entire surface of the work. For example by matting, giving gloss or giving a special surface structure or another special effect.
• The revival of color - skillful use of UV varnishing can emphasize the color of selected areas on the print.
Technology
UV varnishing technology at Pasja
We rely on efficient automatic screen printing cylinder lines and semi-automatic machines. This configuration of machines give us the opportunity to implement a number of orders with low print run and high-volume production of various formats in a short time. Being the pioneers of the use of UV technology in screen printing on the Polish market (1993) and based on our more than twenty years of experience, we have built machines park designed to meet the most demanding expectations of our clients, both in terms of quality and quantity.
Substrates for painting
Theoretically and practically we can varnish over all, under condition that the substrate is flat and provided in sheets with a diameter of not more than 1020 x 740 mm and a thickness in the range from 0.1 mm to 100 mm. Most often we varnish paper, cardboard and plastic, not infrequently also wood, metal and glass.
Most commonly, we apply UV varnish to the covers of books, magazines, brochures and catalogues, as well as to leaflets, folders, business cards and calendars. UV varnishing is widely used in packaging production. Varnishing sheets of glass, wood or metal has many applications, including in construction and industry. It is generally accepted that absorbent surfaces, such as uncoated paper and board, can be varnished. Our technologies allow us to break the mould and create interesting effects on these materials.
Designer's tips
Tips for designers. How to design?
First of all, it is generally not recommended to varnish elements smaller than 0.2 mm in positive and 0.6 mm in reverse. During screen printing, the paper expands slightly and, for small elements, the varnish may not land where intended. However, we can confidently say that, under certain conditions and thanks to our experience, we know how to ensure precise spot varnishing on elements smaller than those specified above.
Keep in mind that although it is accepted to rasterize UV varnish, we at Pasja know how to do it and we can achieve a lot of unique and special effects. This ability has already provided us with many very satisfied customers and some very prestigious awards.
